Substitution of V, Nb and Ta in Bi-based superconductor
Original language description
Among the high-Tc superconductors, Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (phase Bi-2223 with Tc = 110 K) appears to be the most promising candidate for the practical applications. This polycrystaline material carries a very low current compared to their single-crystal counterpart. This is due to the problem of grain boundaries. The weakly coupled grains are known to limit the critical current density of these materials. Some of the reasons for the formation of weak links are misorientation at grain boundaries, vacancy, oxygendeficiency and composition variations [1]. On the other hand the atomic substitutions and second-phase particle addition can influence volumes of the superconducting phases and/or provide flux pinning centers and thus enhance the critical current densityof polycrystalline samples.System Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O contains relatively cheap elements none of that is toxic. There were discovered three superconducting phases, of general formula Bi2Sr2Can-1CunO2n+4. With increasing n their critical temper
