Original language description
Synthesis and mesomorphic properties of new bent-shaped liquid crystals based on 7-hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid are presented. Texture and calorimetric studies were performed and for selected compounds electrooptical, X-ray and dielectric measurements. For compounds with shorter alkyl chain, the B1 or B1REV phase or the nematic-B1 phase sequence was found. Compounds with longer alkyl chain (n >= 12 carbon atoms) exhibit the antiferroelectric B2 phase on cooling from isotropic phase.
