A Relationship Between Pore Shapes and Mercury Porosimetry Curves as Revealed by Random Pore Networks
Original language description
The objective of this paper was to explore the capillary pressure curves of mercury in relation to the shape of throats (constant rectangular cross section or convergent-divergent throats), the throat aspect ratio, chamber-to-throat correlation and the ratio of mean chamber size to mean throat size. Effects of the intrusion and retraction contact angles were also studied. In order to make conclusions of the work more reliable, reference network parameters were derived from a stochastic replica of an -alumina sample. Pore networks based on realistic parameters were particularly significant when convergent-divergent throats were considered or when mercury retraction was simulated. In both cases throat lengths that depended on total porosity and pore sizedistributions had an effect on mercury intrusion and retraction.
