The effect of the irreversible moisture expansion on mechanical properties of the porous ceramics
Original language description
Ceramics is generally considered as a material non-liable to ageing process. This effect was explained by) the reduction of inner energy which is a result of a chemisorption of water molecules. The water absorbed on a surface of a ceramics body reduces its surface energy, the body is then getting flexible and the volume expands. This phenomenon is called moisture expansion. The aim of this theses is to show the effect of moisture expansion on mechanical properties of the porous ceramics. The simulationof ageing process was accelerated by an autoclave experiment and the measurements of strength values were taken consequently. On the basis of these results we can assume that the moisture expansion entails a degradation of strength of the tested samples.
