Original language description
TiN and ZrN coatings offer an excellent combination of properties e.g. biocompatibility, and corrosion and wear resistance that predetermine them for application as surface treatment of dental implants. Their corrosion behaviour was studied in a model physiological solution containing fluoride ions which are specific for dental medical preparations. The results of standard electrochemical measurements showed significant differences in corrosion behaviour of the coatings in presence of fluoride ions, which caused the destruction of the ZrN layer, while the TiN layer was resistant even at their high concentrations.
