Electrokinetic potential for polymer surfaces characterization

  • Original language description

In this work was study electrokinetic potential for polymer surfaces. The effects of the plasma treatment on surface properties of various polymers were studied by various diagnostic techniques. *-potential of pristine polymers increases in the order PTFE < PP PET < PE < PS. After the plasma treatment the *-potential increases dramatically. Plasma treatment results in a dramatic decline of the contact angle. Contact angle and *-potential determinations show that the plasma treatment enhances hydrophilicity of the polymer surface. Highest concentration of the oxygen incorporated in the plasma affected surface layer was found in PS, lower in PP and PE and much lower in PTFE. Results of all techniques correspond to each other and all together complete information about surface properties.
