Glass melting with hight cullet levels in the batch
Original language description
The collection and the sorting of waste has achieved such levels of sophistication that recycled cullet is becoming a dominant raw material in the glass manufacture. Therefore, the technology of glass melting with a high percentage of re-used cullet mustbe mastered. The present paper concentrates on the effect of the cullet feeding, the cullet grainsize, crushing and, particularly, the content of powdered glass. The chemistry of the cullet reactions compared to that of the quartz is also discussed. Theexperiments have shown that the cullet reacts more readily with soda ash than the quartz, and also the character of the reactions is different.
