Centrifugical atomization as a rapid solidification method of aluminium alloys
Original language description
Aluminium-based alloys belong to prospective materials finding their use in several applications, especially in automotive and aircraft industry. The main advantages of these materials are low density and good mechanical properties. Common aluminium alloys are not suitable for elevated-temperaure applications. In this case, aluminium alloys with the addition of transitional metals prepared by rapid solidification method could solve this problem. Metastable phases can be obtained by rapid solidification, which can increase strength and other properties. Thermal stability improvement is caused by the low diffusivity of transitional metals in aluminium. This work aims to prepare Al-Ni-Mm-Si (Mm represents mischmetall) alloys with various element ratios using rapid solidification technique. Optimal rotation speed and diameter of graphite casting jet were determined in previous work. Microstructure and phase composition were determined by light microscope and X-ray diffraction.
