Hydrothermal ageing of low-firing samples of archaeological ceramics
Original language description
Porous clay ceramic materials fired at temperature below 1000?°C contain fine unstable non-crystalline products, which subject to rehydration under the water influence. This work deals with the observation of hydrothermal ageing of calcined clay raw materials and low-firing archaeological ceramics. The changes of ceramic body after natural ageing /hydrothermal ageing were observed by following analysis - XRD, IR, TG /DTA. It was proved that the presence of kaolinite in the border parts of prehistoric ceramics was not caused by rehydration process, but was due to an uneven firing of ceramic body.
