Treatment of polluted air using photocatalytic processes
Original language description
This paper deals with photocatalytic degradation of toluene, n-hexane and n-butyl acetate in a closed loop reactor. Photocatalytic degradation was performed for individual compounds and for their combination. Degradation tests were performed on particulate layers prepared from TiO2 VLP7000 (Kronos) suspension by sedimentation, drying and calcination at 300 °C. The degradation kinetics of butyl acetate is similar to the hexane one, but degradation rate of toluene is considerably lower due to the adsorbedintermediates that deactivate the surface. There is an evident selectivity towards butyl acetate. The possible reason is the higher water solubility of butyl acetate. Due to the presence of water microfilm on the photocatalyst surface, butyl acetate iseasily adsorbed than hexane, and thus easily degradable.
