Chemical cleaning of materials for power generating circuits
Original language description
Power generating circuits are chemically cleaned to prevent overheating and corrosion attack caused by surface deposits. Waterside and steamside layers are composed of metal oxides and other minor compounds from feed water. Therefore an optimal choice ofa cleaning agent and progress conditions are very important. We focused on a comparison of various chemical cleaning operations used for heat exchange tubes. The influence of the cleaning agent (hydrochloric acid, citric acid, and hydrofluoric acid), temperature, concentration of the agent, addition of inhibitor and position of the tube were investigated. Moreover, corrosion rates of base materials were determined. It has been showed that cleaning in hydrofluoric acid is more intensive than in citric acid, however, steels with lower chromium content may be damaged by localized corrosion. Generally, mass losses of low-chromium steels are higher than these of high-chromium steels. In the case of non-stirred solutions, deposits mass losse
