STOCHASTIC RECONSTRUCTION OF POROUS MEDIA AND EVALUATION OF THEIR EFFECTIVE TRANSPORT PROPERTIES
Original language description
The performance of a recently proposed reconstruction method, based on simulated annealing, was evaluated by calculating the effective ordinary and Knudsen diffusivities. The validation procedure involved a set of three porous solids with total porosityvarying from 0.178 to 0.322. Each digitised pore structure was thoroughly characterised by counting clusters of the void and solid voxels and by using the local porosity theory. The characterisation showed that the new method was capable of reproducing each phase in the form of a large percolating cluster and a few small non-percolating clusters, even for low-porosity media. This feature of the new method strongly contrasted with the common method of stochastic reconstruction based on simulated annealing, which resulted in replicas with poor pore space connectivity. For estimating effective ordinary and Knudsen diffusivity tensors, methods based upon simulating the Brownian motion of a diffusing particle were chosen. A direct comparison
