    Formation and thermal stability of intermetallics in Al-Cu-Fe alloys

  • Original language description

    The Al-Cu-Fe system is known to contain quasicrystalline phase which was reported by many scientists as the stable phase. In this work, the effect of the processing conditions on the formation of quasicrystals and other intermetallics in this system wasstudied. The experimental alloys were prepared by casting, water quenching, melt spinning and SHS (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis) methods. It has been found that the increase of the cooling rate promotes the formation of the quasicrystalline phase. The thermal stability of the quasicrystals was studied by annealing of the SHS products at 300 and 500°C.
