Characterization of the manufacturing process and degradation of an early medieval silver pearl from Lumbe's garden cementery at Prague castle
Original language description
Silver pearl, dating from the 9th century, excavated in Lumbe's Garden Cemetery at Prague Castle from one of the richest graves was investigated. SEM/EDS analysis, metallographic examination and manufacturing of a replica was able to identify the processof the pearls manufacture, the nature of soldering technique and the material which was used as well as the extent of pearls degradation. Intergranular corrosion as well as indications of an aggressive restoration treatment which had been performed on the pearl in the past were also evidenced.
