Venetian Filigrana glass and Its Imitations Made in Central Europe. Comparison of a Typology and a Chemical Composition.
Original language description
Venetian filigrana glass got to Central Europe in the late 15th century. Glassmakers in the Central Danube region succeeded in imitating the decor in the second half of the 16th century. In this contribution we will present archaeological finds of Venetian filigrana glass found in Bratislava (the last quarter of the 16th century) and its imitations found in Moravia (Brno, Veselí nad Moravou, Mikulov) and Vienna (turn of the 16th and 17th century). For comparison, we will also present glass from Hall , Budapest and Broumy (Bohemia) . Analyses (SEM/EDS) have confirmed that white glass (laterolo, lattimo) was made with local technology but based on recipes of Venetian glassmakers. Several jars were also decorated with white and red threads (with admixture of Cu and Fe).
