Original language description
We present completely new structural type of W-shape dimers based on naphthalene-2,7-diol and 7-hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid. First of all, bent-core monomers with a terminal hydroxyl group have been designed and mesomorphic properties established. Various modifications of W-shape dimers have been synthesized when two fully developed bent-core monomers are joined together with isophthalic acid moiety, which introduces the additional inner molecular bend. W-shape dimers demonstrate that their mesomorphic properties are more complex and versatile in comparison with corresponding bent-core systems.
