Hybrid organic-inorganic silica materials: A simple method to modify the nature of glass surface
Original language description
The present work will discuss simplification of the sol-gel processing method as the final heat curing of wet-coating proceeds at room temperature and with changeable parameters of organic functionalization. Newly designed hybrid silica coatings consisting in mixing a silica-based inorganic matrix (tetraethyl orthosilicate) with different quantities of Si-alkoxides functionalized with various organic groups were prepared and dip-coated onto soda-lime glass substrates. The effect of curing temperature and other basic sol-gel parameters (time of sol-polycondensation, solvents) were investigated with the aid of various analytical techniques (UV-VIS, FTIR, SEM) and the overall performance of the prepared coatings were described (static contact angle measurements, cross-cut tape tests). A number of representative applications for such coatings will be shown: colored, self-cleaning and weatherable coatings.
