New porous titanium-based biomedical alloy
Original language description
Porous titanium implants are widely used for excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical properties similar to bone, biocompatibility and good osseointegration ability. The advantage of porous structure is lower density and it causes better ingrowth of bone tissue. Changing the porosity influences resulting mechanical properties. Higher porosity decrease elasticity modulus and tensile strength. Newly developed alloys based on titanium and silicon are used as dental implants, bone fillers or artificial intervertebral discs.
