Cyclohexene Thermal Decomposiion Kinetics
Original language description
Cyclohexene thermal decomposition includes so called reverse Diels-Alder synthesis (also retrodiene synthesis, RDA) leading to ethylene and butadiene. Similar RDA reactions can be possibly significant during steam-cracking process when the cracking feedstock contains cycloalkanes or substituted cycloalkanes. Kinetics of this reaction had been studied using pyrolysis gas chromatograph in two phases: a) under constant residence time with varying reaction temperature to estimate appropriate temperature range, b) in established temperature range under varying residence time. A kinetic-based molecular model involving RDA and other decomposition reactions was constructed to describe thermal decomposition. Kinetic parameters were searched as a minimum of summed squared residues in the reaction mixture composition. Finally, confidence area for kinetic parameters of RDA reaction was determined. Determined parameters are in a good agreement with literature data obtained by other authors for similar conditions. This allows the use of pyrolysis gas chromatography for kinetic study of RDA. By literature research, RDA reactions were studied in the gas phase only for several feedstock molecules and data about the kinetics for others are not available. This is the main reason why they are not included in current cracking models. Successful kinetics measurement for other feedstock molecules promises future cracking models improvement.
