    New Applications of Flavin Photocatalysis

  • Original language description

Flavins are photoactive compounds that participate in some light-dependent processes in nature. Because of their favorable photochemical properties, flavins have also become of interest for organic photocatalysis. Rapid development in this area within the last decade has shown flavins to be versatile and efficient photocatalysts, promoting various transformations that proceed by both electron-transfer and energy-transfer mechanisms. In this chapter, the use of flavin derivatives in organic photocatalysis is reviewed, with particular focus on recent applications, including heteroatom oxygenation reactions, cycloadditions, isomerizations, cyclizations, C-C and C-heteroatom bond-formation reactions, and reductive processes.
