Ti doped Fe2O3 Photoanodes for Photoelectrochemical Oxidation of Water Pollutants
Original language description
The photoelectrochemical degradation of acid orange 7 (AO7),and salicylic acid (SA) was studied on thin layers of hematite(α-Fe2O3) deposited on conducting substrates (FTO/glass) andcompared with titanium dioxide (TiO2). Photoelectrochemicaldegradation of selected organic substances was performed invigorously stirred batch type reactors under both backside andfront side illumination. The Faradaic efficiency, f, ofdegradation processes was calculated. f for 1 mM AO7degradation in 0.01 M sulfuric acid was found to be 7.5%. Whenthe pH of the solution was neutral (pH 7.2) or alkaline (pH 13),the Faradaic efficiency decreased to 1.7%. For 1 mM SA, f was6.2% on hematite photoanodes and 6.1% on titanium dioxide(TiO2). Thus, hematite and TiO2 have comparable efficienciesin photoelectrochemical degradation of organic substancesstudied so far.
