Classical and Combinatorial Judd-Ofelt Analysis of Rare Earth-doped Silicate Glass
Original language description
Judd-Ofelt analysis, introduced more than 60 years ago by B.R. Judd and G.S. Ofelt, remains an invaluable tool in the spectroscopic evaluation of optical materials doped by rare-earth ions. The analysis allows to calculate various parameters of the 4f-4f transitions using only the measured absorption cross-sections of the transitions as input. The parameters, such as transition probabilities, branching ratios or radiative lifetimes, are necessary for various calculations or theoretical tasks. Despite the ubiquity of rare-earth doped silicate glass, the reliable J-O analysis of most RE ions is missing in literature. In this contribution, we perform the J-O analysis for common silica-based glass, e.g. erbium-doped alumino-silicate glass used in lasers or amplifiers, or zinc-silicate glass, which is prospective for scintillators. The calculation is carried out using LOMS.cz, a newly developed, free-to-access, intuitive on-line software for the reliable calculation of Judd-Ofelt analysis, including Combinatorial JO analysis, which allows to identify the absorption bands crucial for reliable analysis.
