Visbreaking of petroleum vacuum residue and polystyrene.
Original language description
Visbreaking of petroleum vacuum residue with and without 20 wt % added polystyrene was studied. Autoclave experiments were made in the temperature range 400 425 °C, at 30 minute reaction time and under pressure approx. 5 MPa. Polystyrene cracked mainlyto products boiling in the range of gasoline, the main products of its cracking were ethylbenzene, toluene and isopropylbenzene. Polystyrene cracked much less to gaseous hydrocarbons and products boiling in the range of gas oil. Polystyrene conversion to products boiling to 360 °C increased with rising reaction temperature up to 415 °C, when practically complete polystyrene conversion was reached. Products of visbreaking of feedstock with added polystyrene had higher insoluble compounds that likely developed as a result of larger dehydrogenation and condensation of asphaltenes and resins, which in this way supplied hydrogen for saturation of radicals arising by polystyrene cracking.
