Intensification of Anaerobic Sludge Digestion towards the Energy Self-Sufficiency of Municipal Wastewater Treatment.
Original language description
The main changes in the operation of sludge treatment of CWWTP in Prague were related to an increase of input organic matter, better mixing of digesters, pretreatment of waste activated sludge by mechanical disintegration combined with thickening and transfer of mesophilic digestion temperature to thermophilic. Intensification steps in sludge treatment technology have gradually brought significant improvement in the sludge stabilization efficiency and a substantially higher biogas production connected with a better energetic and economic situation of the plant. Electric energy produced from biogas can almost cover the total demand of the plant and makes the plant energetically self-sufficient.
