Reactivity of nanoscale zerovalent iron
Original language description
Stabilization coatings are applied to nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI) particles to improve colloidal stability and, therefore, enhance a remediation effect of the technology. Nevertheless, some of these surface modifications of nZVI particles change their reactivity towards contaminants. To evaluate the effect of a silica coating on the reactivity of nZVI particles, we focused on degradation of selected chlorinated ethylenes by non-coated and silica coated nZVI particles. Microscale iron was included in the study as a control.
