Application of fluorescence in situ hybridization for the study and characterization of nitrifying bacteria in nitrifying/denitrifying wastewater treatment plants
Original language description
The objective of this study was to optimize fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) during detection of nitrifying bacteria in activated sludges and biofilms and to determine distribution of nitrifiers in selected wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Both Czech and foreign WWTPs with intensification of nitrification (in situ bioaugmentation of nitrification, biofilms) and WWTPs without intensification were studied. 2D and 3D analyses of microscopic images were focused on quantifying parameters and their differences in context of WWTP?s arrangement, capacity and sludge age. Such kind of measurements has been first time carried out in the Czech Republic .
