Postaeration of the Digested Sludge and its Potential Benefits
Original language description
This article summarizes the results of long-term laboratory experiments investigating the process of postaeration of anaerobically digested sludge in semicontinuous batch reactor. Improvement of the sludge quality was assessed especially with regard to the removal of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) and the dewaterability change. The hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 8, 6, 4 and 2 days and different aeration intensities were tested. The largest changes in the observed parameters were recorded at the longest HRT. In shorter HRT, the effect of postaeration was smaller. The HRT of 2 days didn‘t guarantee suitable conditions for biochemical nitrogen oxidation, even at high aeration intensity applied.
