This contribution presents first phase of innovative research in the development of the technology for the decontamination of process air streams contaminated by volatile toxic organic compounds. For these streams treatment, currently available technologies are often inefficient as regarded contaminant destruction, byproducts formation, process economy and technical requirements altogether. The aim of presented research project is to develop technical concept of microwave enhanced air decontamination technique. The unique combination of microwave atmospheric plasma generation, plasmochemical contaminant decomposition and its microwave enhanced catalytic oxidation is applied. Currently, we developed first part of pilot technology of plasma system and laboratory tested the process of microwave catalytic oxidation using assembled apparatus. The achieved results have brought better insight into the process performance and helped in more accurate pilot unit designing.
