Original language description
This chapter describes principles of biological wastewater treatment and principal arrangements of activated sludge process. The description of activated sludge process by using mathematical modelling is also explained together with basic process parameters. The chapter explains how the activated sludge process can be controlled and which parameters are suitable for this purpose. The further part of the chapter describes principles and arrangements of continuous measurement of principal control parameters. The chapter brings also examples of activated sludge process control strategies both in lab-scale models and in full-scale wastewater treatment plants.
