Microbial Control of Heavy Metal Pollution: An Overview
Original language description
During the last decades, increasing attention has been paid to hazards arising from contamination of the environment with heavy metals due to their potential toxicity. Extensive pollution of the environment by toxic metals and radionuclides arises mailyfrom anthropogenic activities while natural processes such as volcanic activities are quite poor contributors. Once accumulated in the environment, metals may persist indefinitely in the ecosystem and eventually accumulate through the food chain.
