Hydroxylation of Phenol to Catechol by Candida tropicalis: Involment of Cytochrome P450

  • Original language description

Microsomal preparations was isolated from yeast Candida tropicalis grown on three different media with and with out phenol. While no CYP was detected in microsomes of Candida tropicalis grown on glucose, CYP was isolated in microsomes of Candida tropicalis grown on glucose with phenol. These results, the first report showing the ring hydroxilation of phenol to catechol with the microsomal enzyme system of Candida tropicalis, strongly suggest that CYP-catalyzed reactions are responsible for this hydroxilation.
