Biological Treatment of Mononitrotoluenes: Engineering and Biological Aspects - sborník
Original language description
Mononitrotoluenes belong among hazardous wastes. They are used as raw materials for a production of herbicides and dyestuffs. In addition they also can be found as toxic contaminants of soil and groundwater in ammunition plants and various military areas. This study describes biodegradation characteristics of the individual MNTs and their mixture by an enrichment microbial mixed culture in a batch reactor system including the effect of additional carbon and nitrogen sources. The next part is focused onthe kinetics of 4-NT biodegradation including the effect of additional N-source. The last part shows a comparison of 4-NT degradation and the MNT mixture degradation in two different continuously operating bioreactors. The comparison and structure of biofilm from reactors is identified and characterized.
