Phytoremediation and biodegradation of PCB in soil.

  • Original language description

This is a part of the research work focused on study of possible mutual relationships of microorganisms and plants in PCBs metabolism. Polluted soil was obtained from a site which has been contaminated by PCBs for a long time. This soil was used for isolation of bacteria which potentially participate in biodegradation of PCBs. There were bacterial consorcia and individual strains isolated and their capability to degrade PCBs in presence of biphenyl as co-substrate was tested under the laboratory conditions. The JAB1 strain, showing the best capability, was re-cleaned by isolation techniques and taxonomically identified by method 16S of ribosomal DNA. Contemporarily there are performed tests on biphenyl operon presence, presuming degradative capabilities of isolated strains. The tests were done by PCR amplification of the bphA1 and bphC gens . The same contaminated soil was used for pot experiments under real conditions. Within six months three plant species were cultivated - tobacco (N
