    Paint Solvent Mixture Removal in Biotrickling Filter

    The biotrickling filter used had the following parameters: ID of 150 mm, bed height of 1 m, Pall rings of 15 mm made of polypropylene as a packing material. Pollutants used were: toluene, xylenes, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone and n-butyl acetate. The loading tests with toluene were carried out by varying the air flow rate (EBRT = 176-18 s). The total RE with the inlet toluene concentration (Cin) of 100 mg.m-3 was reached up to OL = 20 gC.m-3.h-1 but with Cin = 200 mg.m-3 up to OL = 13 gc.m-3.h-1 only.When the reactor started to be overloaded by the addition of ketones to aromatic hydrocarbons, the RE of both pollutant types dropped. The degradation ability of toluene remained suppressed even after ketones were removed from the waste air.When a mixture of the pollutants without xylenes was present in the waste air, an RE of 98 % could be observed. In presence of all the pollutants at OL = 12 g.m-3.h-1 only an RE of 88 % could be determined.

    Biotrickling filtr měl následující parametry: ID-150mm, výška lože 1m, náplň-Pallovi kroužky. Použité polutanty: toluen, xylen, methyl ethyl keton, metyl isobutyl keton, octan butylnatý. Při degradaci toluenu byla provedena zátěž průtokem vzduchu (EBRT=176-18s) při konstantní vstupní koncentraci toluenu 100 mg.m-3 a 200 mg.m-3. Bylo dosaženo totální degradace toluenu až do hodnoty OL=20gC.m-3h.-1 při Cin=100 mg.m-3 a OL=13 gC.m-3.h-1 při Cin=200 mg.m-3. Při zatěžování, kdy byla zvyšována koncentrace ketonů ve směsi došlo k poklesu degradační účinnosti obou složek, avšak RE toluenu zůstala nízká i při odebrání hydrofilní složky ze směsi.
