Original language description
The review is focused on a production of bioethanol and biobutanol from lignocellulose biomass. The advantages (rapid growth, no competition with food production, less fertilizers used in production, good availability, low price) and problems (necessityof integration of several pre-treatment steps into a process of biofuels production, low concentration of sugars, release of toxic compounds in pretreatment process, etc.) of lignocellulose feedstock are discussed. The possibilities how to reduce the cost of lignocellulose biofuels, such as exploitation of consolidated processes (SSF, SSCF, CBF), recycling of chemicals, enzymes and microorganisms together with revaluation of main by-products (e.g. lignin can be used as a solid fuel or raw material for production of thickeners, fillers or other chemical agents) are shown. Use of genetically modified strains, which are able to produce cellulolytic enzymes efficiently, utilize both pentose and hexose sugars, are resistant to inhibitors and
