    There is potential for wide ranging applications of simulated moving bed (SMB). Several new concepts have been proposed in order to improve the performance and extend the range of application of classical SMB technology by exploiting various additional degrees of freedom. Improving SMB processes aims to reduce production costs and increasing efficiency, thus, this effort results in several configurations of SMB equipment designs with more degrees of freedom than the classical SMB processes.
