Analysis of chaotic flows in a stirred vessel
Original language description
Data sets measured in a flat-bottomed cylindrical mixing vessel with four radial baffles and pitched blade impeller are analyzed by nonlinear time series analysis methods. The macro-instability of the flow pattern (MI) was extracted from the experimentaldata by a combination of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique and spectral analysis. The analysis of data sets revealed complex temporal structure of the tangential force affecting the baffles and its pronounced variability along the vertical vessel axis. Low frequency components were extracted from the measured data and their characteristic measures are evaluated and discussed.
