Original language description
Hydraulic and transport characteristics of packings are used for absorption and distillation column design as well as for comparison of efficiency of individual packing types. Models of mass transfer in a packed columns do not properly take into acco untthe dependency of the characteristics on the packing geometry. Because of the dissention of correlations, experimental data are the most reliable basis for the design of a packed column. Transport characteristics of metal structured packing Mellapak 250X, Y in dependency on the height of the packed bed are given, the influence of liquid distribution is observed. The pressure drop and the interfacial area of metal packing are compared with the data of the Mellapak 250 Y made of polypropylene.
