Permeation of organic vapors through polymer membranes

  • Original language description

In this work the permeation of organic vapors (methanol, ethanol and 1-propanol) through polymer membrane PEBA (polyether block amide) at 25 °C and 40 °C was studied. The permeation apparatus based on the differential permeation method with hydrogen as acarrier gas was used. Composition of gaseous mixture was determined by thermal conductivity detection or by gas chromatography. From experimental data appropriate permeation and diffusion coefficients were calculated. Polyether-block-amide membrane PEBA4033-PE (thickness 120 mm) is produced by GKSS, Germany. PEBA membrane contains supporting polyester lattice which does not participate in vapors permeation.
