We study dynamics of the reaction hydrogen peroxide-thiosulfate-Cu(II) (HPTCu) in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) and a system of two continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs) mutually coupled by diffusion-like mass transfer. In experiments withone CSTR the system displays periodic oscillations of pH, bistability between steady states, bistability between periodic oscillations and a steady state, and excitability. Periodic forcing induces phase-locked dynamics. Model reproduces all these features only qualitatively and classification of chemical oscillators is used to point out possible improvements.
