    We study dynamics of moving spatiotemporal patterns in a tubular reactor with a continuous supply of reactants along the reactor (cross-flow) is modelled and analyzed by using a simple first order thermokinetic reaction. We show that in a convective system of finite length with no flux boundary conditions travelling pulse and front waves can exist as well as complex periodic and nonperiodic spatiotemporal travelling patterns. A detailed examination of these complex dynamics reveals subtle structures which can be attributed to the presence of convective instabilities. The cross-flow reactor can display very complex dynamics also in the absence of convection. A remarkable pattern occurring both in the convective and nonconvective systems is a front moving back and forth in the reactor forming a zig-zag pattern. This involves a reflection of the front at the boundary which is associated with a transformation from one kind of front to another.
