    CFD prediction of homogenization in a cylindrical vessel

    This paper presents a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation of homogenization using FLUENT# 6.1 with a help of MixSim# and Gambit# pre-processors. The simulations were done in turbulent flow regime with standard k- turbulence model and Multiple Reference Frames method. Effects of structured and unstructured grid and order of distcretization were examined. Experiments were performed in a cylindrical and fully baffled vessel of diameter 0.29 m, equipped with 6/45° standard PBT, RT or TX335 on a shaft. Homogenization curves were measured by conductivity probe and read to the MATLAB# program. Acquired data were recomputed to get dimensionless concentration curves and the time of homogenization, tM, was obtained. Distributions of added tracer with same properties as bulk were simulated and data were read by "point surface" probes. The reliability of numerical procedure was demonstrated on a basis of comparison of the numerical results with the experimental data.

    Tento příspěvek představuje CFD simulaci homogenizace s použitím FLUENT#u 6.1 a pre-procesorů MixSim# a Gambit#. Simulace probíhaly v turbulentní oblasti proudění, s použitím standardního k- modelu turbulence a metody mnohonásobné referenční soustavy. Byl zkoumán vliv strukturované a nestrukturované mřížky a řádu diskretizace. Experimenty probíhaly ve válcové nádobě s narážkami vybavené standardním míchadlem se šikmými lopatkami (6/45°), Rushtonovou turbínou a míchadlem Techmix 335. Křivky homogenizacebyly měřeny vodivostní sondou a načítány do programu MATLAB#. Získaná data byla přepočítána na bezrozměrnou koncentraci a byla získána doba homogenizace. Spolehlivost numerické simulace byla ověřena na základě porovnání numerických výsledků s experimentálními daty.
