    Dynamics of free liquid surface motions in a stirred tank.

  • Original language description

    Motions of free liquid surface - monitored by means of an immersion conductivity probe - within a near baffle area in cylindrical flat-bottomed stirred tanks are studied in this paper. The experiments have been performed with standard cylindrical flat-bottomed stirred tanks of inner diameter of 0.29 m and 0.5 m. Water has been used as a working liquid. Pitched-blade (45°) impellers with six blades were used for stirring. Statistical and spectral analysis of experimental time series is performed and maxima height - frequency distributions of the liquid surface heights are constructed from the recorded data. Effects of the impeller speed and of position of the measuring point on mean liquid surface height, coefficient of variation, power spectral densities and height-frequency distributions are analyzed. A distance of the measuring point from the baffle is a key factor influencing the surface motion dynamics. The results indicate that the high-amplitude low-frequency surface height fluct
