Study of Transport Properties of Porous Polymer Particles by Inverse Gas Chromatography

  • Original language description

Molecular diffusion of solvents and monomers in polymers is important and finds wide range of applications in many areas. These areas include solvent devolatilization, residual monomer stripping, packaging, polymer synthesis, drying of paints and coatingprocesses. These processes rely on transport and thermodynamic data of the polymer-solvent system. To optimize chemical processes, engineers need tools that will allow them to acquire the experimental data on sorption and diffusion and to use them for the subsequent work, i.e., the mathematical modeling of processes. Conventional methods like gravimetric measurements of sorption rely on establishing the sorption equilibrium in the bulk of polymer and this process is slow. Also these methods are difficult to apply when the solute is present in a small amount (i.e., at infinite dilution of solvent). So, inverse gas chromatography method is being introduced. It is a fast, simple, accurate and reliable technique suitable to measure high di
