Usage of Simulation Software for Improving Energy Efficiency of Sulfuric Acid Plant
Original language description
Methodology for improving energy efficiency of a chemical plant is presented. Energy efficiency methodology is based on systems approach. Procedure of improvement of energy efficiency proceeds as follows: (1) identification of all energy sources (physical, physical-chemical and chemical) and of all energy consumers; (2) decomposition of plant into zones where heat is utilized and into zones where heat is removed to no avail; (3) identification of opportunities to improving energy efficiency. It is advantageous to use simulation program HYSYS with simple and user friendly graphics interface to evaluation of different modification to the process. Usage of methodology for improving energy efficiency is illustrated by an example of sulfuric acid plant.
