Sulphite oxidation method renewed
Original language description
Sulphite oxidation technique is one of the widely used methods for determination of gas-liquid mass transfer characteristics in many apparatuses. Even though, this method imposes strict limits on physical properties of the system, it allows studying both- the interfacial area and the mass transfer coefficient. The engineering use of the method had been described by Linek and Vacek1 and, more recently, its use for fundamental studies of mass transfer mechanism had been shown by Linek, Moucha and Kordač2. A fundamental advantage of the method lies in very high sensitivity of the reaction kinetics to presence of some metal ions, which is used for precise adjustment of the reaction rate without major changes in batch composition. The same property is themain drawback of the method, as each new application of the method requires obtaining all the kinetic data anew without possibility of simply using published ones, except general forms of the correlations used. So far, the only reliable m
