Methods of Bottleneck Identification in Multiproduct Batch Plants
Original language description
This paper describes some methods of bottlenecks identification for multiproduct batch processes and compares them to each other. It is based on the simulation model of batch production plant because creation and solution of mathematical models is too complex and applicable only for simple batch lines. Different products manufactured in a multiproduct process usually have different operating times. Bottlenecks at product changes can move to another production unit, so their position may depend on the manufactured product. Product changes can create floating bottlenecks. Bottlenecks are identified by means of several procedures compared with each other on a computer model for a multiproduct line with six operations that can produce eight different products. All calculations and simulations are performed by means of the Witness PwE discrete event simulator.
