Fabrication and characterisation of hollow composite iron oxide/silica microparticles with porous shell

  • Original language description

Our aim is to prepare hollow composite iron oxide/silica microparticles in the size range tens of micrometers. Microparticles had porous silica (SiO2) shells in which were dispersed nanoparticles of superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe2O3/Fe3O4). Such prepared microparticles can be applied for targeted delivery systems for field of applications as cleaning substances. We prepared the composite microparticles via soft shell templating route. As a silica source is used tetraethyl orthosilicate and as the templates the droplets of octylamine. The method has good reproducibility, is fast and very simple. The resulting particles were studied and characterized in size, shape and ability to heat up. We have shown that particle size can be systametically varied inthe range of 20-100 ?m and that composite microparticles were able to heat up in the presence of an external magnetic field in the radiofrequency range (400 kHz). Our results show that the fabrication of composite iron oxide/silica micro
