Modelling of sorption equilibria in polymers using the PC-SAFT equation of state
Original language description
This contribution is concerned with the sorption of low molecular mass species in polyethylene (PE) and polystyrene (PS). Several industrially important binary and ternary systems were studied. The sorption equilibria were measured using a gravimetricalapparatus and simulated by the perturbed-chain statistical associating fluid theory (PC-SAFT) equation of state. The comparison of experiments and simulations enabled to evaluate the PC-SAFT binary interaction parameters. The sorption enhancement and inhibition effects were studied using both experimental and calculated ternary data. These effects were observed for the cosorption of ethylene and 1-hexene in PE, but, to our best knowledge, no generalized discussion of these effects in PS and PE was presented.
