Heat transfer in microcellular materials
Original language description
By the use of mathematical modelling of coupled heat transfer by conduction and radiation we are able to determine the equivalent conductivity of heterogeneous materials like polymeric foams. In this contribution we treat both polymer and gaseous phase as participating with the thermal radiation. We study and discuss the influence of several phenomena like the foam anisotropy and reflectance of the phase interface on the equivalent conductivity. Our model shows qualitatively comparable results with experimentally measured thermal conductivity.
